Helping to reduce Australian sheep mortality with digitanimal GPS for livestock

Today we want to tell you a story that reached us from Australia, more precisely from CoolingDown Farms, and the story has to do with the GPS devices for livestock installed on the sheep of our client, Belinda Lay, a farmer with more than 20 years of experience in the industry, and a great reference in regards to farming and IoT.

The farm of Coolindown Farms was bought by the Lay family in 1977. The property is situated 55 kilometres east/northeast to the city of Esperance, in Western Australia. Coolingdown Farms has been growing over the years, and now it contains 4 locations, where they combine sheep farming, and the production of grain.

For more than 30 years, they have been developing their own grain line and they were also pioneers at Clayspreading innovation. During all this time, they have been gaining the benefits of this investment in the last 20 years.

One of the principal objectives Belinda pursues, is reducing the mortality rates, particularly sheep mortality. The use of management tools to prevent mortality has helped to reduce these rates, however, as she indicates, there is not a margin yet for more improvement. Belinda thoroughly trusts on the use of sensors and technologies to take lamb well-being and survival to the next level, so she has been working with digitanimal GPS for livestock sincemore than 2 years.

We’re passing you this Visible Farmer reportage, with Belinda telling us her story.
